Dave came to Wichita in 1971 straight from Iowa State to begin his career as an architect. He is active in various organizations and serves on many boards. He is a board member on SSMID, a past board member of Downtown Wichita Association and the States Site Review Board. He is involved in the Historic Landmark Preservation Committee, Merchants of Old Town Association, and Wichita's Way Finding Committee. Dave is a consultant to the City of Hutchinson on Downtown Parking, is a member of BIG and the Orpheum Board. He is on the Sports Commission Site Selection Committee and is a member of Downtown Rotary Club and Wagonmasters.
Dave has many special accomplishments under his belt. He established the first Commercial Historic District in Wichita and started the Preservation Plan for the City of Wichita. He is a three-time recipient of the Chamber of Commerce architectural "Keeper of the Plains Award". In 1990 he was selected as "Downtown Business Person of the Year". His firm, Marketplace Properties received the "Over the Years Award" from the Wichita Chamber of Commerce in 1999.
Dave was employed by Jack DeBoer as an architect from 1971-1973, and by several Wichita architectural firms from 1974-1982. In 1982, he started his own firm with two other partners, Watson, Breidenthal & Burk. In 1987, began development work through his own firm, Marketplace Properties, LLC.
In 1988, Dave was named the preferred developer in the Old Town Marketplace District and has been involved, both as an architect and developer, in the redevelopment of that area. He has participated in the architectural development or redevelopment of 25 buildings, and currently another 6 buildings in various stages of redevelopment.
