His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 86, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, cherished, and more relevant than ever.

B.B. has mixed traditional blues, jazz, swing, mainstream pop and jump into a unique sound. His singing is richly melodic, both vocally and in the "singing" that comes from his guitar. In B.B's words, "When I sing, I play in my mind; the minute I stop singing orally, I start to sing by playing Lucille." Lucille is the name of B.B.'s guitar.

B.B. continues to tour extensively, averaging more than 250 concerts per year around the world. Classics such as "Payin' The Cost To Be The Boss," "The Thrill Is Gone," "How Blue Can You Get," "Everyday I Have The Blues," and "Why I Sing The Blues" are concert (and fan) staples.

Internationally acclaimed baritone, Anthony Brown presents an original tribute to Paul Robeson, an all-American athlete and scholar, champion orator, international recording artist, and star of the stage and screen during the 1930s and 40s in honor of Black History Month.

Robeson’s story, presented in partnership with the Orpheum Theatre and Hesston College, is a 75-minute song-filled, multi-media presentation that reveals Robeson as a towering figure in 20th century American history. Brown uses Robeson’s own words, using many first-hand accounts from his autobiography Here I Stand to trace his humble beginnings as a preacher’s son in Princeton, N.J., to his international celebrity and pioneering activism on the world stage.

Accompanied by a pianist, photo projection and a narrator, I Go On Singing is equal parts historical documentary and live concert experience. Musical numbers range from spirituals to Broadway, and include original arrangements of Robeson’s favorites like Ol’ Man River, Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, Shenandoah, Scandalize My Name, It Ain’t Necessarily So, All Through the Night, Joe Hill, Deep River and many others.

The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, Christian music's largest annual tour and Pollstar’s #1 tour in attendance for the first quarter of this year, has announced its highly anticipated 2012 artist and city line-up. Founded and hosted by Grammy®-nominated Christian music mainstay NewSong  and produced by Premier Productions, the Winter Jam 2012 Tour Spectacular will be headlined by Grammy®-nominated alternative rockers Skillet. The 47-city tour will also feature Sanctus Real, former Newsboys frontman Peter Furler, Kari Jobe, Building 429, Group 1 Crew, illusionist Brock Gill, and national speaker Nick Hall. Final Friday Events

Final Friday — As the name implies, Final Friday happens the last Friday of each month. Art galleries, museums,restaurants and retail shops around Wichita stay open late and welcome visitors. Recognizing that Downtown is the artistic and cultural center for the region,

Wichita Downtown Development Corporation offers a trolley to transport art lovers to the concentration of venues in Downtown. The ride is free and allows attendees to park once and visit several galleries. Hours vary between galleries but all are open during the core hours of 7p.m. to 9 p.m.

Most galleries use Final Friday to unveil and debut new shows or as a closing reception. All venues are free and open to the public and several galleries incorporate artist demonstrations and/or live music. Not only does this event give guests the opportunity to view creative art space, it also is an excellent time to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork directly from artists.

The man whose standup concerts rule the comedy world, Jeff Dunham, announces a full slate of shows through March 2012 that offers his millions of fans brand new laughs and hilarious additions to his famed troupe of sidekicks. In the coming months, concertgoers will meet two new Dunham characters: Achmed Junior, the not-as-equally skeletal son of Achmed the Dead Terrorist, and Little Jeff, a mini-version of the ringmaster himself. Over the past 35 years, The East L.A. five-piece Los Lobos have assembled a body of work diverse enough to cripple most bands and to captivate fans worldwide. Event Information: Awe-inspiring flips and tricks are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats, as the 2012 Freestyle Motocross series rolls into Wichita, Kan., on March 2-3, for two nights of insane freestyle action.

The world’s most daring FMX riders will run the gauntlet to perform tricks never thought possible on a dirt bike. Back flips, Suicide Cans, and Kisses of Death are just a few of the gravity-defying tricks that will be on display at each event. Each rider will throw down for 90 seconds, trying to execute as many tricks as possible – but only one can win.

The rider lineup for 2012 includes, Drake McElroy (Fernley, Nev.), Greg Hartman (Greencastle, Pa.), Jimmie McGuire (Lawton, Okla.), Julian Dusseau (Humboldt County, Calif.), Keith Sayers (Butte, Mont.), Kenny Bell (Reno, Nev.), Matt Buyten (Carson City, Nev.), and Nick Dunne (Redding, Calif.). Youth Orchestras Concert

The Youth Orchestras program was founded in 1947 as an educational outreach tool for the Wichita Symphony Society, and is the largest program of its kind serving Kansas students.

The Symphony maintains three active Youth Orchestras:

1) The Youth Chamber Players, string students from fourth to tenth grade. 2) The Repertory Orchestra, comprised of students in grades seven through twelve. 3) The Youth Symphony, comprised of students in grades seven through twelve.

You are invited to join soul/blues-rock act the Terry Quiett Band as they record a live CD with legendary producer Jim Gaines at the historic Orpheum Theatre. This will be nationally released later in the summer of 2012 by Lucky Bag Records. Music lovers will be familiar with Gaines for his 13 Grammy Awards earned working with music industry icons Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, Steve Miller Band, George Thorogood, Huey Lewis and the News, Blues Travelers and Eric Johnson.

Event Information: Texas native, Rodney Carrington has been making audiences laugh for almost twenty years with his unique brand of stand-up comedy. The country singer-songwriter has recorded eight major label comedy albums which have sold more than two million copies … two of which have been certified Gold. His albums include such hit comedy-inspired songs as “Dancin’ With a Man”, “Show Them to Me” and “Don’t Look Now”. His Christmas album, Make It Christmas features the song, “Camouflage and Christmas Lights”. Carrington is also an actor having starred in his own sitcom, Rodney which ran for two seasons on ABC.

As well, he co-wrote and co-starred in the feature film, Beer for My Horses with Toby Keith. In 2008, Carrington co-starred in Trace Adkins’ hit music video, “I Got My Game On” and later won a CMT Music Video Award for “Supporting Character of the Year” for his role.
