For Immediate Release

(Wichita, KS) Following last month’s presentation of the Goody Clancy initial recommendations for downtown Wichita’s master plan, the excitement and anticipation for projects in our city’s core has been palpable.  Building on that enthusiasm, the team at WaterWalk is proud to share the vision for their area of downtown – WaterWalk Village.

The Village concept illustrates the community emphasis of WaterWalk.  “We will have an ideal location for friends and family to gather for shopping, enjoying a meal together or relaxing along the river,” said Doug Rupe, WaterWalk executive vice president.  “I envision people strolling through the area and taking in the sights including the Waltzing Waters fountain, which is scheduled to open next summer.”

WaterWalk worked with LawKingdon Architecture in Wichita to bring The Village concept and vision to life with updated conceptual drawings, which were officially unveiled at tonight’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites and celebration of the opening of The Commons – the garden area that will eventually reach the river.  The new interpretations illustrate an increased focus on retail and restaurants.

“The time is right to further refine the next steps to bring the vision for WaterWalk and downtown Wichita into reality,” said Rupe.  “We are proud that our development has been recognized as a leader in this area.  In fact, representatives from Goody Clancy said that WaterWalk is one of two current downtown projects that is already well underway and in good hands moving forward.”  The other project cited was Old Town.

WaterWalk:  Progress in Action
While WaterWalk just unveiled The Village vision, progress on bringing the plan to life is underway.  The Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites at WaterWalk is now under construction with the grand opening slated for July 2011.

The hotel will offer 131 spacious hotel rooms and suites.  It is being built by Four-G, LLC and managed by AG Hospitality Management Services.  The hotel will provide free hot breakfasts and free WiFi.  It will also feature a pool, lounge and a courtyard that adjoins The Commons at WaterWalk.

Key Construction is the general contractor for the hotel and LawKingdon is also the architect on the hotel project.
